When reading “I know the Truth, So Don’t Bother Me with Facts” by Jeffery Kluger it is obvious that the main idea of the passage is that people generally fooled by lies and rumors. Kluger supports his main idea by citing a study done by R. Kelly Garrett and Erik Nisbet . This specific study referenced had taken the opinions of 750 people who believed some rumors about the proposed Islamic culture center that was to be placed at the Ground Zero cite in Manhattan. Upon gathering their information Garret and Nisbeth came to two inferences ; one being that is is not difficult to change people’s opinions and beliefs with providing pictures and quotes and less than a third of people are open to changing their opinions and beliefs regardless of there being evidence that proves otherwise. Although there are times where people are provided with further knowledge that proves their opinions and beliefs are not right they stick to their own beliefs even stronger. Researchers continue to conduct studies that observe the brain to try and unlock the reasons why it is so easy for humans to be fooled by rumors and lies.
